Why Omega-3s and Dry Eye are Related

Today, we want to shed light on an important topic that affects many of us: dry eyes and the role of Omega-3s.

At the heart of our commitment is Dr. Ana Juricic, who consistently brings her patients the finest products and expert guidance to enhance ocular nutrition and promote eye health.

Why Omega-3s and Dry Eye are Related

Dry eye syndrome can be uncomfortable and affect your daily life. Omega-3 fatty acids play a crucial role in maintaining eye health, and there's a strong connection between Omega-3s and alleviating dry eye symptoms. These essential fatty acids are not produced by our bodies and must be obtained through our diet or supplements.

Omega-3s, including EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid), DHA (docosahexaenoic acid), and DPA (docosapentaenoic acid), have been associated with numerous health benefits.

  • They help improve blood flow, reduce inflammation, and lower blood triglyceride levels.

In the context of dry eyes, Omega-3s can :

  • Provide relief and improve symptoms of Dry Eye Syndrome, including support for proper tear function (decreased rate of tear evaporation and increase in tear secretion) in adults.

We understand that the world of Omega-3 supplements can be confusing. Not all Omega-3 supplements are the same.

To make an informed choice, you should look at the content of EPA, DHA, and DPA, as these are the most important Omega-3 fatty acids for eye health. Many store-shelf Omega-3 supplements may not provide the right balance of these essential fatty acids or may not be as pure and concentrated as you need them to be.

If you are already taking Omega-3s, make sure the EPA + DHA is over 1800 mg per day and it is from a RE-ESTERIFIED TRIGLICERIDE form.

Omega-3s from an ETHYL ESTER form DO NOT reduce the incidence of dry eye disease. The ethyl ester form is usually found in less expensive Omega 3s.

Not all omega-3 supplements are created equally. Most commercially available omega-3 manufacturers do not perform this additional re-esterification step, leading to unpurified, synthetic formulations.

Dr. Ana has chosen a superior formulation to recommend to you.
